Hi Guys
Just wanted to share this with you:
Needed a new clutch cable for my Dakar, BMW V&A is asking R420 for the whole thing incl housing.
So I went on this forum here as well as BMWMCC's and found postings on various cable places, one of them Cable Clinic in the Parow area.
I phoned them up and was told that the turn-around time is a day (next day).
Now - as it was the Friday before Saturday 1 May holiday (Sat 1 May 2010) it would have meant: no bike for the sunny weekend ahead.
Besides, as I stay in town, it would have been a bit of a schlepp: a total of 100km of driving (= approx 2 hrs in traffic)!
So I googled and phoned around, and ... found a place close to me in town...!
CableSuperService!
Bevan the owner since 42 years, is this kind, oldish master craftsman who has been operating from the same premises off Sir Lowry's Road since 1968!
I pitched on Friday afternoon and he made me the new inner cable in approx. 20mins (see pics).
Cost: R70!
He custom makes all sorts of cables, such as speedometer cables, pipes, reelings and does repairs to all automotive cables including window winder mechanisms.
His details:
