Good day all motorcycle enthusiasts

We as Retro Write Up received the opportunity to host the Retro Write Up
Speed Week Challenge. With this challenge we will attempt to create a
similar feel as the Bonneville Salt flats Speed week, concentrating on the
better side of motorcycling. We want to encourage our local motorcycle
shops, custom shops, enthusiast, amateur & professional builders to compete.
The point of this challenge is to create a relatively safe, fair environment
to compete for the highest top speeds. We all know that achieving speeds in
excess of 250km/h  with modern motorcycles can easily be achieved. With an
older motorcycle, well that’s a completely different story.

To make this challenge interesting and we came up with the following
restrictions/requirements:

1-      Only pre-1975 motorcycles are allowed
2-      Total capacity for twin and single cylinder motorcycles limited to
1000cc.
3-      4 Cylinder motorcycles limited to 650cc
4-      What about triples? no triple cylinder bikes, they would simply be
too quick.
5-      Normally aspirated engines only.
6-      Motorcycle must be ride able on the road (fairly road legal, front
and rear light)
7-      Historic racing motorcycles will be in their own class.
8-      High octane fuel may be used, no ethanol, nitrous or any other
strange fuel allowed.

As this challenge develops, restrictions will be revised with more possible
classes to be added.
We are looking at getting sponsors involved, to help with prizes, trophies
etc.

Apart from the speed challenge, we will also be looking at the best
presented combination.
Points will be awarded for:

1-      Aesthetics of the motorcycle (Bare in mind that it should be a
functional custom bike with a couple of personal touches).
2-      How your team is presented.
3-      Your motorcycles name (e.g. Salt Ghost, Texas C-gar etc.)
4-      Your racing suit and team uniforms.
5-  Older motorcycles will receive more points.

In order to secure your entry, a deposit of R1500 needs to be paid into the
organisers of Speedweeks account Before March 2014 . This deposit will go
towards your camping fees etc. If you however forfeit the challenge, your
R1500 will pay towards the contenders runs. (so in other words you will
loose your deposit)

Marketing campaign

This event will present great marketing opportunities for everyone involved,
we plan on having regular progress updates throughout the year on our FB
page on our webpage www.retrowriteup.com.
Our webpage has a big following of both local and international readers,
which will help put this this challenge on the map. Each contender will also
have their own feature on our webpage when their bike is finished. We are
also looking at having professional photographers and a film crew
documenting this event, this will help grow this event even further.

Sponsors

Except for all the free time and effort that goes into planning an event
like this, there is always costs involved. If you know of any sponsors that
would want to get involved in this please put us in touch with them, we
would like to have a main sponsor that grows with us with this challenge.

Looking forward in seeing all of you there, and please remember that the
most important thing is to have fun.
Please confirm your entry by responding to this email. More details will be
sent in the beginning of January 2014.

Yours in motorcycling
Colin & Marnitz
