Last year I could not go. This year I had to go. A week before I told FertieBiet Im going. An hour later he phoned " Im in" he said.
Thursday morning we started from his place just outside Riversdale. Stunning day for riding. Pity someone switched the wind on later that day!!
P1020564.jpg

We rode through Garcia Pass and passed Anysberg to Laingsburg.
P1020565.jpg

Anysberg road.

Rooinekpass.
P1020569.jpg

We did the Wimpy breakfast thing in Laingsburg and stayed on the N1 for 40kms towards Leeu-Gamka and turned off left at Koup.
P1020570.jpg

Open country with long straight roads.

P1020572.jpg

This area has been in a severe drought for a few years now. How this plant has flowers I do not know.
P1020573.jpg

By the time we got to Merweville the wind was becoming nasty.
P1020576.jpg

From Merweville we rode to the tar road between Fraserburg and Leeu-Gamka. We went straight over and took the
first turnoff left to Botterkloof. Really beautiful. We could hide from the wind for a while!
P1020577.jpg

Waterbreak.
P1020578.jpg

Those ridges reminds me of church-organpipes.
P1020581.jpg

P1020582.jpg

P1020583.jpg

It was getting late and we were heading for Fraserburg.
P1020584.jpg

It seems it would take a while longer to get to Fraserburg!!!
P1020589.jpg

We did a quick refill in Fraserburg and left for Carnarvon. A lot of powerslide-marks on the road. Wonder why-who?
Could only be some of the CT gang. Twenty kms out of Fraserburg I spotted a old building close to the road.
I had enough of the wind. The owner was planting watermelon in a garden and he said we can park anywhere we like.
The old building was full so we picked the "skaapkraal" No sheep were in sight so keep the Aussie jokes to yourselves!!
The owner lived on another farm and a Husky 450 owner. Talked a lot of bike before he left and told him about WDs. Expect a new
member from Fraserburg.

P1020591.jpg

Our water supply!! It was a lekker place to camp.
P1020592.jpg

P1020593.jpg

P1020594.jpg

We left early for Carnarvon.
P1020596.jpg

FertieBiet talking to his front tyre!! Had a tube patched ,said "hi" to Eisbein and Jacko at the Blikkies Bar
and spoilt ourselves with breakfast.
P1020597.jpg

Van Wyksvlei getting busy. Two groups from CT and the George people getting there at once.
P1020598.jpg

We turned left just after Van Wyksvlei and then later right towards Marydale. Very quiet road. Just the two of us.
Filled up at Marydale and headed to Boegoe.
P1020599.jpg

We had joy we had fun we had flat tyres in the sun "remember that song?"
Number two for the trip. And it was the last Im happy to say!! :thumleft:
Met Drazil on the way to Boegoe. It was good meeting you John.
P1020601.jpg

Crossing the Orange River. This river feeds a lot of people.

P1020623.jpg

Lots of laughs at the prize giving. The party lasted until the wee hours of the morning. A funny thing happened
during the night. A 950 starting by itself and revving  by itself!!Thanks for offering me a ride on your bike
Andrew. Maybe next time I will say yes :mwink:
P1020625.jpg

Early morning.
P1020627.jpg

Whose bike is this?
Oh yes belongs to the guy who tried to break a landspeed-record at Verneukpan and then his brakes failed and
luckily there was a fence to stop him!!
Im happy you could ride away from that Bakkie. Could have been much worse.
P1020628.jpg

We rode to Groblershoop and crossed the Orange again. Luckily we did this because we later heard from Eisbein
they had no petrol in Marydale.
P1020630.jpg

The sad remains of Putsonderwater.
P1020632.jpg

P1020633.jpg

P1020634.jpg

We took some smaller roads to Verneukpan. Much longer than via Kenhardt.
P1020635.jpg

P1020636.jpg

Riding towards Verneukpan from the East.
P1020639.jpg

When we got to Louis's house close to Verneukpan FertieBiets bike said "Im thirsty"!! We could not get any
out of my tank(opening blocked) and luckily Louis wife sold us 5 liters. It was still 110kms to Brandvlei.
Met Michnus and wife on the way and rode together untill they turned off to Van Wyksvlei.
P1020637.jpg

Engine of the car that crashed on the pan. The driver sadly did not survive.
P1020641.jpg

Michnus in the dust somewhere behind FertieBiet.
The fuel lasted to Brandvlei and we refueled aswell. Good food in the pub.
The CT WDs arrived a while later and BUS joined us to Williston. He drove to Wston with his bakkie and
had to get back to CT the same night. Rather him than me!!
P1020642.jpg

Thirsty business this Adventure riding or is it a long hangover :mwink:
P1020643.jpg

Loaded BUS's bike and off he went. It was after 5 and he still had to do over 500kms!!
P1020644.jpg

While FertieBiet filled up I went to the  NG kerk. Merweville has a beautiful church but this one is
stunning!!
P1020645.jpg

P1020646.jpg

Apparently Williston has a "mall"too!
P1020647.jpg

Took the road to Sutherland. Plan was to camp somewhere. It was getting late. We found these two houses standing
empty just off the main road. Sat on the stoep for a while and the tenant drove past on his way to his own farm.
Yes, camp where you like and showed us where the waterpipe is to wash.Talked for a while and the same thing crops up
as always DROUGHT!! Good people living here. We will visit him again.
P1020649.jpg

FertieBiet just after his pipeshower! We pitched our tents on the stoep.
We slept like logs.
P1020650.jpg

Woke up early and it was cold and the wind up to its old tricks.
P1020651.jpg

The last 80km to Sutherland was beautiful. Following the river.
P1020660.jpg

Very tame Springbokkies.
P1020654.jpg

"Keerwal"
P1020652.jpg

Boer maak n plan. When the river is in flood(right to left) the farmers flood-irrigate their lusern. To get to the sluicegate
for canal they built this hangbridge.
P1020656.jpg

"The Stig" wanted to walk over but it started swinging. He says because of the wind. Methinks weight had a lot
to do with it :mwink:
P1020658.jpg

We had a breakfast in Sutherland and just before we left Watermat arrived from Fraserburg.
He joined us through the MoordenaarsKaroo.
P1020661.jpg

P1020663.jpg

P1020662.jpg

Just before Komsbergpas. Last pics I took.

We rode to Laingsburg and then home via Anysberg again. Watermat turned off to Montagu.
I rode 1939kms from door to door. It was a GOOD ride.
FertieBiet thanks for your company.
It was my first national Bash, but not my last.
Thanks to the organizers.

Thanks for reading.
