Guys, trimming down on some of the projects. Too much on my plate and I want to apply the funds elsewhere and free up some space.
First up is this 1984 Kawasaki KX60-A2.
Originally started to restore for my youngest but due to me being too slow, he’s outgrown it.
It was in a bit of a sorry state when I bought it and the following has been done to date:
- New wheel bearings
- New swing arm bearings
- New steering head bearings
- Frame was sandblasted and powder coated
- Wheels stripped and powder coated
- Spokes sandblasted and re-plated
- Seat was re-upholstered
- Swing arm powder coated
- Forks restored and new fork seals
- Exhaust restored and sprayed with high heat paint
- Handlebars restored, together with triple clamps etc
- Wheels re-laced but need to be trued
- New front and rear tyres and tubes
- New brake and clutch cable made up
- New split perch lever assy, brake and clutch
The motor has been partially stripped and is complete, with all parts well marked. I have a pdf workshop manual to go with. Motor looks good with the only part an issue being the ratchet gear. Available from Kawasaki for about R850 on back order. Make sure to educate your friendly Kawasaki dealer since they’re quick to say parts are discontinued. It however shares the majority of parts with the B model from 1985 onwards.
The following new parts come with:
- New sprockets
- New chain
- New grips
- New piston kit, conrod kit and associated gaskets
- New plastics i.e. front fender, front number board, side panels and rear fender.
- New air filter
Honesty section - The air filter box is not in great condition. It is however possible to repair and I have a plan for it.
The tank is still original and untouched. Haven’t started on it since I wanted to first have the clever people design the existing stickers to suit.
If I think of anything else I will disclose such here.
I’m into this project for R11,989.21 thus far, obviously excluding time spent.
I believe/hope this is a great little 2 stroke collectors piece.
I will take some decent pics when next at the workshop, but this is what I have in the meantime.
