The side stand kill switch on my R1200GS came apart in the middle of nowhere last weekend. I clipped the wires, closed the circuit and rode home. The bike works fine without a side stand switch just like my Japanese bikes back in the 1970's. I checked the price of a new switch assembly: R1900. I shouldn't be surprised at BMW charging ten times the production cost of an electrical part but I always am. I thought about rounding up an old fashioned push-to-close-the-circuit side stand switch from another brand but I can't see an easy place to attach it. Any suggestions? Any other ideas on work-arounds?
