So the KLR only uses 4 spanner sizes to remove both wheels, a 17, 19, 22 and a 24. If you buy those tyre-level-spanner combinations you are looking at at least a grand and more. Went to the local hardware store and started with a 24 spanner (at R150) a grinder, a blow torch and a hammer to produce a relatively OK-looking tyre lever-spanner combo. Went back for the 22 and 19 and did the same. The 17 just looked too small. Spent about 30 minutes on each.
Even had the privilege of using them in anger and must admit that the 3 different sizes actually came in handy with the tyre-lever part. Worked a treat. Also experimented with sharper and more blunt noses. All 3 for less than R400.
