So I had no other choice but to pull the AT's engine out in an attempt to repair the buggered outputshaft splines.
The offending bit:
BTW - out of interest I've asked our local Honda Stealership to send me a breakdown of parts and cost if they were to replace the shaft for me (yeah they wish!). But surprise, surprise I'm STILL waiting for the quote almost a week later.
Anyway, I decided to rather than split a perfectly good engine, to attempt a repair on the splines. Thus, ripped the engine out and took it to a friend who manages an engineering workshop - he seems rather positive about the outcome but has 'some' concerns about the heat generated..
Best case I'll be out a couple hundred for some oil seals.
And probably a couple of hundred more for physio :?
Taking an AT's heart out single-handedly is NOT recommended.
In fact, I would strongly advise against anybody EVER attempting it!
But here's the beast (his mighty heart transformed into a small oilsmear):
I probably have some time till the engine's ready again and am considering some worthwhile maintenance on the remaing bits.
Any suggestions on what work would be appropriate?
