One positive spin on the empty water reserve is it's DS heaven. Lots of places to explore and things to see.
On the way there we stopped at Thandi village. Made note of all the potential roads in the background.... next time....
Asshole tree next to Thandi village
Couple of 100m's in on the Franschoek side of the dam
Same pic with the wide angle lens
Franschoek side is almost dried up. Different landscapes everywhere
Submerged road that was used to build the one pump station
Caledon side looking towards the boat sailing club. In the distance is one of the previously submerged vineyards.
The terrain varied from parched earth to sand to round river rocks. We ran across old building foundations and another massive vineyard. We used the old Cape road as well and parts of it still has the road markings clearly visible. Nearly all of the yachts at the boat club have been removed from the water (correct nautical term?) and only three remain at their moorings. Deon is talking about tackling Kwaggaskloof next.
