Too Brand Conscience?

I was wondering, am I Too Brand Conscience when buying anything.

I am always shooting down other brands in my head if they are not the "well Known" ones.

I give you examples:

1. Helmets
I would rather buy Arai, AGV, Shark, Caberg, Etc... and not look at Spirit, Mars, Airoh, etc.

Question: Are all ECE ratings on helmets the same? What is an ECER rating?

2. Rider Gear
I would Rather buy BMW, Assualt, Alpine Star, etc... and not look at Spirit, Perfecto, etc...

Question: What make good rider gear so good? How do you distinguish?  ???

I dont know why, and maybe this should change? Is it just me or are there other WD who think along the same lines?

I can easily buy a ECE approved helmet like the Spirit, Mars, etc.. But find myself hesitating. Good or bad?  :-[

ALso i can buy cheaper (well rated) rider gear, but also hesitate when making the decision?  :-\
