Travel by bike in Europe

I have been invited to attend the German Moto gp this year - I also have access to a Transalp for the duration of my stay.
Any advice from those whom have traveled by bike in Europe re routes - accommodation and relative daily expenses if staying in backpackers would be appreciated.
I will be travelling from Hartzgerode in Germany and considering about a 3 week stay in July.
