What makes an Ultimate Adventure Bike?....â?¦and why does it seem as if manufacturers are getting it wrong.
Its actually common sense, bone simple monkey business!
We need....... long distance capable, off road suitable in being, simple, nimble and adapted to the harsh African environment. Thatâ??s it.
I'm no self pronounced expert .......but common sense prevails.
Here are the first 8 key Design Elements of my 15 point message to them.
No 1:
Collapsible, gear and brake levers..........because the bike will fall over or bash something at some point, even under the best rider, and these shouldnâ??t break and leave you brakelooss or gearloos or moederloos!
No 2:
Wide, serrated and collapsible foot pegs. Good grip with your boot, and the 'wider the better' unlike choice in lapdancers.
Standing on them should invoke confidence, weight transfer from rider to bike and shouldnâ??t punish the heel of your monkey feet.
No 3:
Pipes nicely out of harms way, not under motor, as not to get bashed, flattened or split open by rocks and other protruding naasties, therein also improving ground clearance.
No 4:
Kick Starter - one day the battery WILL fail you, and it WILL be when you need it least. (stuck in sand, no hills in sight) Not even the strongest Krazzy monkey will push start a bike in these conditions.
No 5:
Light weight â?¦â?¦a AdvBike should be light enough that even a solo AdvMonkey should be able to lift it or drag it out of the â??poopâ??, especially when stranded in the lonely African bush.
No 6:
A Large capacity tank!��an Adv bike must be able to do at least 350km. If you where doing 250km and took a 50km wrong turn, you would be in trouble.
This oneâ??s got 470km of rangeâ?¦â?¦and the monkey drinks even more!
No 7:
Ground clearance and sub-protectionâ?¦.. for getting over rocks, stumps and deep ruts, without bashing you engine to pieces.
No 8:
Slim and streamlined waist,(the bike) so that standing and clamping the bike between your legs is natural and comfortable and not gonna effect your monkey business love life, back at home.
