Using Google maps to navigate

I know there are a couple of threads about this but I havent got the time to search now

I have created a custom route on google, which I can now open on my phone using My Maps, I cant see it in Google maps app

Now I see the route but I cant figure out how to make it navigate me, how do I get the lady to start speaking and tell me that in 500m I must turn left on my route,
Or doesnt that work like that?
