using the engine as a compressor

so the in-laws were clearing out the garage and being a bit of a tool hoarder I was given a whole pile of stuff. one such doohickey was what appears to be a tire hose that replaces a spark plug. I would assume you then run or turn over the engine and pump up your tires? has anyone seen something like this?

kinda makes sense to me if you had a 1200, but alas to remove a plug on the 800 requires disassembling half the plastics.. its really light and compact..
