VIN nommer asseblief.

So, it seems my bike's battery crossed the rainbow bridge and I need a new one. So I call the BMW dealer in George as I believe a quick check at OEM is a good starting point. They tell me they cannot give me a price, or whether they have stock of I don't give them the VIN number. This baffles me. Anyone out there who can tell me why? It's a battery, not the ECU, or the camshaft.
