I don't commute.
I dont even ride much...
The bike is purely a hobby to keep me sane...
The odd weekend trip (once every 2-3 months) with mates or a Sat/Sun morning outride...
Bought the 2007 Dakar in Nov 2009 with 12k km on the clock...
Now in March 2011 it has 22k km on the clock...
I have replaced steering head bearings twice and fork seals once...
Now the swingarm bearings are shot as well...
They are small fixes but irritate the crap out of me...
I want to get on and ride... not have to stress about what if...
So:
1. Fix the Dakar and wonder what if?
2. Sell it and get a new DR650 with warranty so that it becomes their problem?
3. Bite the bullet and get a new 660 Tenere with WARRANTY so that it becomes THEIR problem?
The money spent in maintenance almost justifies the difference in price to the Tenere...
If I buy a DR I SAVE money which is not a bad thing either...
All I want is peace of mind and reasonably trouble free gravel travel... :
Over and out.
