OK, you do need to be a Medic of a Medical Doctor... or your Wif or husband / partner is one of those and will ride pillion with you.
Here is the whole story:
Annually there is a mountain bike race through the Namib running from Windhoek to Swakopmund (340 Kms). The race is brutal (one year temps peaked at 52 degrees) 24 hour race and medical emergencies happen, there has even been a fatality.
I was chatting to the race organiser and he asked if I can organise roaming medics on bikes to assist during the race.
What is needed:
4 qualified paramedics / doctors
who owns or has access to a dualsport or offroad
bike is fitted with enough luggage space to carry Medic Kit and water
can ride the bike
is bike fit (you will spend the better part of the 24 hours on the bike)
This is what is covered for you:
1 night accommodation in Windhoek at Arabush lodge
1 night accommodation in Swakop at the bungalows
All fuel required for the race (there will be fuel at the change over points 30 to 70 kms appart)
Medic Kit
And I think food as well during the race (need to check on this one)
When is the race:
18 to 19 December 2009
but you will have to attend the pre-race briefing on the 17th usually after 17:00 in the afternoon
