I am busy "restoring" a 1981 XR500R. (the one with the reed valves ... !)

Did some basics to make sure she run before we take her for a ride ... replaced the clutch plates, balancer - and timing chain tension, cleaned the carb and adjusted the valve clearances ... all sound good when she fires up.

The only problem is that it's difficult to start after the engine is warmed up ... would that be a valve clearance issue or should I lean the pilot screw more (currently 2 turns out)

... oh .. ja .... should I keep the reed valve in ?

Any advice would be appreciated.
