Help needed with choosing what DRZ400 to buy
« on: March 14, 2013, 08:02:14 pm »
I'm keen to buy a DRZ400. I want a weekend bugger around, be able to commute to work once or twice a week, and ride to Namibia if i feel like it.

Now obviously i need something i can roadworthy. Now this is my dilemma, i only want to spend under 30k. I had a CBR600RR a few years back that i bought brand new, and felt guilty when i didn't ride it.

There's a few on gumtree and the like, but they're all non licensed ones. Do they all come with wiring harnesses in order to put on indicators etc?

I have also seen a few super motards, besides the tyres, what is the difference between these and the normal DRZ's? I would be keen to have a set of tyres for during the week, and another for weekends, so the sm wouldn't be a bad choice.

OK, just been told that the SM has different suspension, so scratch that.

How simple will it be to do up a normal DRZ to a state where i can roadworthy it?

As nice as it is, its more than the max i've set myself on this. Other issues is that i'd need to add the road bits, and get it from EC to GP.

I don't want the same situation as the CBR again, the guilt irritated the hell out of me. This has to basically be a consumable, a toy that doesn't affect the pocket at all.

Indicators, mirrors etc. Biggest issue is getting the bike here.

My apologies, it does come with all those bits. Issue with ADHD and dyslexia is that you cock up a lot of things when reading, the meds wore off a few hours ago.

I will have a think about it and send the man a PM if i decide to make an offer.

I would seriously consider going over budget for that bike, Its actually better than new imo.

To get the bike there is an excuse to ride it. Maybe fly down and ride it back. Make it a trip to remember  :thumleft:

Arg, so tempting. This is all coming about because i have 60k i was supposed to be spending on importing a dog, and now it seems i'm not going to bring it in. So need something to pacify myself.

I saw this on the net, i dunno,  maybe i should, maybe i should buy the 462: http://www.gumtree.co.za/cp-motorcycles-scooters-in-east-rand/drz-400-urgent-sale-457928525

Im with DirtyXT on this one. Torques bike you can litterally see the whole build and everything about the bike. Its not just a bike anymore then.

Either way, its your call and whatever you decide is cool with me, as long as you get a bike  :ricky:

Ok, i had a chat with Hannes. And i'm also looking at a normal "e" model tonight, but that one obviously isn't as kitted. It also doesn't have all the road kit yet.
