KTM 690 Erratic Ideal revving-Video added
« on: August 31, 2014, 05:25:48 pm »
http://youtu.be/XbevRd-KgBs

So was riding along single track and 2 lambs run in front of me. Lock on brakes , bike stalls, drop to 3rd while  bike doing about 40kmh to bump start, big back fire. I pull over , select neutral to re start bike, once again, big back fire, it did this about 6 times.  I then turn ignition off etc, wait a while, then it starts but now revving up and down on it's own, revving from 3000-5000 up and down, as if I was twisting the throttle. A quick check of all cables etc, nothing out of place. So I continue riding the revs stop going up and down, but now idels at over 2000, and when you de eclarate the revs do not drop, they just stay the same. In the video you see I rev it but the revs do not drop down.

I need to check cable routing.
Bushcat says plug behind head light check and clean

Any body got any other things to check, will do a Google search also?

Check that the throttle body is firmly pushed into and sealed around short intake manifold - I had a 690 backfire on me and dislodge throttle body from intake causing same symptoms you describe

Fix it by loosening big hose clamp - push TB firmly in and tighten clamp again but do not over tighten because this then squeezes TB off again
The older I get the faster I was

stand on left hand side of bike

look at bike - front wheel should be on your left

look at engine - throttle body behind engine - on right of engine - same place as the carburettor would be

The older I get the faster I was

Good to hear it's sorted.

It should be fine - I don't think it will need to idle for 15 min - I hate leaving bikes running for so long at idle with no cool air blowing over radiators - they get so effing hot

Rather disconnect battery for ten minutes - that should reset ECU

or just ride the bike

So after reinserting the throttle body & disconnecting the battery for 10 mins have you solved your idling issue on your space ship?

If the TB was loose and dislodged from intake manifold as I suspect it would have been sucking air which would have caused the symptoms described
