Yamaha XT
« on: September 26, 2015, 03:28:27 pm »
I'm thinking of getting myself an old XT 250 or 500 as a project bike.

Now I need some expert help please.

What would a well used on the road 250 like the one in the picture be worth? Advertised for R9000 on Gumtree, but I think it is a little much.

The owner claims it is original, but I doubt those bars and the paint are original.

In the alternative - anyone got something similar they want to sell?
Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies

I would tend to agree with you that the paint and handlebars are not original.
Front mudguard also looks aftermarket, exhaust?  ::)
If I look at the second photo it looks very empty in the middle of the bike below the side covers. Is there something missing?
Battery box or the air box?

Not sure if im going to be stepping on any toes here and im not 100% sure of all my facts but it looks excactly like the same bike that was advertised 2 weeks back for R4000,when I phoned the guy told me bike was already sold and guy drove it home to epping..now for those who know Cape Town it is very close to Goodwood from where it is advertised now. So im 90% sure this is the same bike so he is definitly not the first owner of the bike and when it was first advertised the guy said on the add that second sometimes either slips or sticks, cant remember. So im just warning you and the reason also that I think its the same bike is everything looks exactly the same as the prevouis bike on gumtree for 4000, the give away for me was the way the mudgaurd also looks, very close to the front tyre and the same shape. This is why I think its the same bike and the guy is trying to make money. Just my 2 cents. Just trying to help a fellow WD member. If this is the same bike I would stay far away from it,one thing I cannot take is dishonesty.

What you say makes perfect sense.

Got that uncomfortable feeling when he sort of showed me the papers and everything was done in a rush.

There was also apparently people coming to look all the time. Definitely not honest then.

Thanks for the heads up  :thumleft:
