West Coast Baja - Transport/Accommodation
« on: January 21, 2016, 12:24:36 pm »
..amongst the growing list of threads

Anyway...

We will be travelling up to the event in March, and will have space for a bike, rider and gear if someone needs a lift up there.
Detail can be sorted out later, a contribution towards fuel more than likely.

We will probably (to be confirmed) leave early on the morning of the 17th March and will more that likely drive back Sunday night or Monday morning (also to be confirmed).

I will also have a fair collection of tools, and the idea is also to have a selection of common Yamaha WR450F spares to take along which will be available to other riders once EFT payment has been made to Yamaha.

(any recommendations as to what spares I should look at taking along will be appreciated, and NO, do not tell me Yamaha does not need spares, last year's Amageza showed the opposite)

Will probably add to the thread as we get closer to the event, or not, who knows...

Digging through Amageza threads I have found a wealth of information but I will probably also have other questions for experienced riders.

1. What do the guys do w.r.t. cramps, prevention as well as cure?
(I can be as fit as my "short for my weight" body allows, I am still prone to cramping)

2. ...

Join the club, I cramp like crazy while racing.

What's worked best for me in the past is Rehydrated sachets and Gu make a product called Gu Brew (actually, I think it's name's changed to Rehidrate as well). I'll confirm though, I have a tub of it at home.
Those 2 combined have me cramping the least :)

Regarding spares... I'm racing a KTM, could you pack in a spare 690 please ;)

Coming from me this is a bit rich, but concentrating on relaxing while riding is a huge help with cramping.  Constantly think about your grip, the set of your shoulders, the clamping of your thighs etc. No muscle in your body should be exerting itself without good reason.  Easier said than done, but there, Mr Jarvis has spoken.  ;)

Gaviscon tabs work better than rennies. Something to do with lactic acid causing cramps. Sachets might be easier to swallow, haven't tried this yet.

My mate Carl cramps if you look at him funny. In 2014 when we did the roof he was cramping all day friday and he's a fit bastard. On the Saturday morning I told him to take 2 gaviscons and then we took one every hour. He didn't even get a twinge that day!!

Right, now that we have the crabs cramps under control...

Spares (bike specific spares, not stuff like cable ties, duct tape or other generic bits and pieces)

So far on my list...

The easy stuff:

- Oil filters and crush washers
- Air filters
- Fork Seals
- Gear/Clutch/Brake Levers
- Assorted Bolts/|Nuts/Washers
- Sprockets & Chain

The stuff I am not sure about:

- Specific O-Rings/Seals/Gaskets?
- What else?

Obviously not to the point of doing an engine rebuild overnight, but things guys know can and will go wrong.

OK, so apparently I do not need to take any spares for the WR450.

Another question - what to use to wrap palms?

Kamanya mentioned 3M tape, question is which 3M tape?

do some work in your garden - starting this weekend, dig a big hole(1 cubic meter) and fill it up again, do it every weekend for 6 weeks..(no power tools, only a medium size shovel).. no gloves needed :pot:
that will help with fitness, core strength and get your hands ready  :thumleft: :thumleft:
