So if I can save R150k on my bike Insurance  installments in 6mnths hell yeah, I will do it. But my saving will only be R1800 on my bike and that is not worth the stress.

Having a couple of vehicles of not huge value then the insurance saving can be big and you can quickly save enough to cover one if involved in an accident.

I have dropped insurance on some of my vehicles in the past like my off-road bike and the old Landy. But kept at least 3rd party insurance.
At least then I know how much I could loose as a maximum as the Porsche or whatever I drove into would be covered by 3rd party.

PS. If you have general house insurance and maybe say on your car but nothing on the off-road bike and you ride into a Porsche with the bike. Now You do get some personal liability insurance with it all. Would this cover you if the Porsche owner or his insurance comes after you?

No that personal legal liability cover you in your personal capacity.

Vehicle liability is not included in that cover and need its own cover..............that is what is commonly known in the
open market as "3rd party insurance".
3rd party insurance = vehicle liability insurance.

REMEMBER: NOT ALL INSURANCE POLICIES ARE CREATED EQUAL.

Some insurance companies (especially the so-called cut-out the middle man and save types) only give
you (for cars) R2,5 million cover for liability...................where your more
proper reputable companies like Santam, Mutual and Federal etc gives you R 5 million
You will be surprised how many people does'n know this.

Typically motorcycles are only offered R2,5 million for liability.

I totally agree.  “How can people ride (adventure) bikes without insurance?”

I pay insurance for two GSA LC, two GS800's, 5 cars, 2 bakkies, 4 4x4’s, 4 trucks, 2 forklifts, 3 houses (the building), one farm, one business, 2 home contents, life insurance and medical aid, etc, etc.

Insurance costs are killing me, BUT,,,,,,,,,, I cannot afford NOT to pay insurance.  It has saved me many times.

1.   A taxi crashed into my daughters car, it hit her so hard from the side it pushed the engine out the mountings - they sued, they claimed and they had several witnesses that my daughter jumped the “not working robot” which was now a 4 way stop.  4 years of court cases, (which we never went to, not even once).  My insurance called in an expert witness and proved beyond reasonable doubt they jumped the robot, and they paid all costs etc and I got my excess back.

2.   My un-licensed forklift reversed into a fancy 2 million rand car at the garage.  I would have lost my business if I had to gone to court and had replace the written off car.  (insurance covers the forklift to and from the garage, not registered for the road).

That’s what insurance is for, NOT to just to replace your lost.

Agree not paying for years can save big bucks, but how many of us have never ever had an accident or a run of bad luck.

A few years ago after not claiming for years, in a week: my son had his car stolen, next day my son wrote off his GSA, the next day my 5 ton truck dropped into a hidden sceptic tank and as it fell sideways into the shit, it knocked the wall of the house down and did damage to the truck, the next day the other dam truck crashed, same day a taxi crashed into my daughters car, writing it off.  And the lightening stuck near my pool and wiped out half my electronics’ in the house.

They covered everything.

A month later I fell over on my GSA breaking the tib, fib and ankle: while in hospital the insurance company sent me a bowl of fruit,  thanking me for my business..

And then no claims for years again.

For info: my 1978 land cruiser has "balance of third party" as it is on the farm, just in-case I crash into a million rand car, the rest fully insured.

And

No regular drivers specified, we can drive anywhere off or on road, my trucks go where there are no roads, no fixed addresses, cover for off road and track training, etc, etc.

NO BULLSHIT.

Scottfin the best.

WARNING: Insurance companies are not the same.  Even if it is in writing.

Auto general, dual direct- hippo, etc. are a bunch of insurance thief’s.  and you cannot win. Look at steyns house, I paid for some of it.  google it - have a look..  Douw Steyn is one of South Africa’s richest men, with a personal fortune of well over R8 billion. Steyn owns and started Auto and General Insurance, and he started it with nothing. Bunch of thieves.

What I do not do is to try convince someone else about stuff like this - it is the insurance salesman's job.

Personal choice, make it and live with it  :thumleft:

And good luck when the shit hits the fan, or Carmen gets hold of you...
