Coding plug BMW GS Trophy
« on: September 23, 2016, 06:52:47 pm »
I picked up my demo GS Trophy today and BMW fitted a coding plug as per my request.

However on my GSA the plug showed on the LCD display but the Trophy doesn't show it, does anybody know why?

Possibly the Trophy doesn't have the capacity to use one?

I am aware that the Enduro, Enduro Pro and Dynamic modes aren't available but I thought that with the coding plug fitted it keeps your previous settings when you switch the ignition off like ABS off?

Please correct me , but AFAIK the ABS will always reset when bike switched off when KEY is turned to off, ABS will stay deactivated though if you use the kill switch (start button) to kill and start engine. This can not be overridden (Safety feature)

And it is BMW so you are lucky you can uses the buttons to switch it off again you do not have to go through a bunch off menus and get your reading glasses every time to switch it off like other manufactures

If it's not flashing, it is on...

It doesn't display as being fitted, but I went through the setup menu on the bike and saw that the setup menu is far more basic than the full spec GS models

Meurig just a curious question. Cant they load the fullhouse lc software and delete only some of the features or is it two different computers/ecu's in the bikes? I for one cant see that BMW will built two different ecu's but will only change software? But can be wrong.

Your opinion coming from a Lc GSA to Trophy would be nice to read. :thumleft:

I kind of assume BMW respond with homologation issues but I will check with them and see what they say about the software upgrade.

I picked up the bike on Friday late afternoon and only rode it home because yesterday was my daughter's wedding and I don't think she would have understood me rather going riding  : :ricky:

I spoke with BMW today and their response was that it is a software and component issue.  As an example, the full spec has a gyroscope while the Trophy doesn't etc.  They said there are plus minus three items that are missing from the Trophy and by the time you upgrade them, it would cost the same a s Full Spec bike.

I and others should therefore enjoy the simplicity of the bike  :ricky:

Also spoke to someone last week in the know.
Enduro or Enduro Pro mode can be added to the Trophy according to him, for throttle and abs only. Obviously no suspension / ESA.
I didn't go into more detail but it's something I'll definitely want to look into since I need all the help I can get off road
