The only extra I'm itching for is a bashplate really. I have a topbox and pipe on mine already though.

So if anyone sees one....

This one on FB looks great. https://www.facebook.com/groups/ktmadventureriderssa/permalink/1127409710660707/

Looks good.
I see the 2014 is common at R145k price range and less than 10 000km even at dealers. Then they normally have about R10k worth of extras already fitted.
If I can get a decent price for my bike I will be looking at those.

So dust with the wrong filter is the biggest issue, but how quick is it to check the air box for dust? How much tupperware needs to be removed?
A KTM uses normal allen key tools like a Jap bike right?

Top crashbars, how necessary are they? (I fall a lot)
I guess for the same reason pannier racks will also be a good call.

To get to airbox you need to remove the tank.
Not a 10min job. I would say if you know your story about 30min.

No allen keys, everything is torx.

Kicking myself for missing a Touratech one on for sale here for like R2500 a while ago.  But yeah. I must.

Molt3n, all the tools you need to remove the tank are under the seat.  As manic says, it's not  2in job but it's not rocket science either.  I've done it about 3 or 4 times and you get quicker each time hehe.

Sooo...I think you guys knew this question was coming...

How well do the S compare to the R offroad?
I know it has 30mm less travel and less ground clearance. But it is still a KTM so how will it compare to my GSA?

The GS to GSA swop I made was for the suspension upgrade, so I need to know if the S will compare to that of the GSA or the GS? I can live with it if it is similar to that of the GSA. I am already used to the tyre sizes...

Or you can just tell me to chill and be patient...

The R is like the GSA.

The S is like the GS.
The R is like the GSA.

While this is a nice comparison to show the difference between the S and R I believe the correct comparison is that the S is like the GSA and the R is just has taller suspension and bigger wheels which (in my opinion) negatively affects its road manners.  Get the R if you will really do most of your riding in serious offroad train.  Anything the GSA can do the S will do with ease and with more fun.  The idea as expressed by m0lt3n that going to the S is going backwards from the GSA is not logic in my view.  You will loose that lovely big tank of the GSA, the shaft drive and the wonderful BMW hard boxes.  Everything else is a leap forward.

Now I think it is time to stop debating this and go ride a KTM.  You like, you buy.  You don't like, you stay with what you got and be happy.

Amsterdam the comparison of S is like GS wasnt made by me. The point of my question regarding the current bike for sale was exactly to get the the answer you just gave.
I have ridden an S and not an R. I have also ridden an SA and while I would prefer one I cant justify the extra cost at the moment.
My test rides wasnt worth much though which is why I heavily rely on opinions of others.
And you are right again...I should know enough to make a decision now

I went from S to R.

I nhad the S for about a year, and I loved it.  It was great everywhere, I did a lot of learning on it. With TKC 80s on it was great offroad, even for a noob like me.

I then changed to the R.   Even though I loved the S, I'm not sorry.  The R, for me, doesn't lose much on the road. If you're a really great rider I' sure the big front and taller suspension would impact onroad, but I ride mine exactly the same as I did the S. Harder actually.   And offroad it feels a little easier to me.  It loves jumps haha    I seem to hammer it over speedbumps (aka "Launch Ramps")

The Electronic suspension on the S is very cool though.  Especially for taking pillion or luggage.

I reckon you'll be happy either way.
