Ahh yes. A well anticipated shootout between 1290 and gs rallye and they keep the bmw on road rubber.
What an amazing and thorough test.

you have a choice between tyres with the GSA so I would imagine with the rally you can choose as well?

I was actually very interested in this test, will now wait for another opportunity for a proper evaluation with offroad focus. At least the Rallye gets enough attention so that it will be used and not the GSA to compete offroad.

I notice that they got a Riding God to pilot both bikes, not your average rider. I would have thought they'd let Takhaar Harry ride both and give his feedback which might have been relevant.

It is simple, before if you want a more tar oriented bike go bmw but ktm for more off the beaten track stuff. Now the Ralley does inroads in off road and 1290SAR on tar.

So this test was more about off road where ktm is still king. With all its technology and latest electronic cockpit the 1290 is the overall winner. Bmw playes catchup.  :pot:

It was a really interesting show.  Would have been a bit more balanced had they put some proper tyres on the Rallye.  I was listening to his comments and for the terrain he was riding there was little between the two (i think he did probably factor in had the Rallye been on knobblies).  Having a Rallye i must say it is a bloody good bike.  BUT - there can be no contest between the two in my mind for general offroad use (especially here in the Western cape).  There is hardly a road that does not at some stage have sand - and the 21inch on the KTM surely will prove better.  That is not to say the BMW is a worst bike - i think Bligw hits the nail on the head

A 10 minute video clip is no shootout, nor a test of any value.  In fact, even if the BMW (or the KTM for that matter) were on slicks, the outcome at the end of the video insert would have been much the same.

It was the only GS Rallye demo we could use and it didn't have knobblies. If you look at the test carefully, you'll see that we took that into consideration. If we had done a timed shoot out, your point is relevant

You can only please some of the people some of the time.  I tend to not watch the programme much, and I thought that it was a decent opinion piece, I will make an effort to catch the show.  I was quite impressed by the rider as well.

Twin? For months before it was launched everybody was ranting and raving about it in a good way.  New game changer.
Well its been here for some time and I am yet to here someone dissing it. If you want to take on Africa you are better off with a twin. Take on Dakar take Ktm. Globe trobing the Bmw.

My view.
