Just remembered about the levers.  It doesn't help on the brake side, but Chris Birch swaps his clutch lever to the stock 200EXC lever. Fits 100s and is quite short.

I have been out of the adventure game after selling my beloved 990.

Thinking of getting back in and so far I like the 1090 more than 1290 and 790ís.

KTM has awesome deals on the 1090ís at the moment ,after doing some research I found out they stopping production of the 1090ís.

FORK SAKES ouens!

Am I gonna shoot myself in the foot by buying a 1090?

Why? You had a 990 which they stopped making. I still have a 990, no problems!

I will have to speak to the lanies at KTM and see what they say about parts being available for 1090ís

Sounds like the only issues the guys have been having was with airbox and you have to fit some sort of dongle to jippo the mapping that keeps resetting after you switch bike off.

Hopefully October/November I should have the bucks for deposit.

The 790 is filling the slot between 690 and 1290? Some people reckon the 1090 didnít sell well in certain markets because big bike buyers want all the technology and power of the 1290. Ala BMW alles of niks.

I remember hearing something about a new 1150/1190 happening.  I thought that was really stupid: kill 1190. Bring 1090. Kill 1090, bring back 1190?? WTF?

The 1090shares like 98% of it's parts with the 1190 and 1290, so don't worry about not finding bits for it.

Maybe someone from the parts warehouse called and said we still have a hell of a lot of 1190 barrels left what to do with them?!! ;) :lol8:

Hi Jethro i dont know what kind of riding u do and prefer but if i was you i would 1st take a 790R for a spin before i make up my mind. The 1090 is a great bike and i would never have thought to get rid of it until i rode the 790R. I definitely will be looking to get a 790R next time around that there is enough stock available. The problem u will have is that there is currently great deals to be had on the 1090R new and 2nd hand and paying almost R200000 for a 790 versus say R160000 for a low mileage 1090R with lots of extras is gonna be a tough decision. But i will be passing the 1090R onto the oldest son and i will be looking to take possession of the NEW technology(Rally mode with TC) and enjoying some discount in weight, longer fuel range, ease of service with the air filter under the seat and new screen and headlight  etc etc.  >:D :thumleft:
When u are on tar u are lost  !

So.....

No aftermarket levers available for 1090R?????

I have been to KTM, I have tired Dustriders etc......the levers for the 1190R do not fit the 1090R. No one can tell when aftermarket levers will be available for these bikes.

Bit of a bummer as I broke my brake lever and a new KTM one R1490.00  :deal: bit steep to replace the 2cm I broke off.....so I guess I will keep the broken one

So one year on and I have finally found a set of adjustable aftermarket levers for the 1090R  :thumleft:

they fit, and they seem to work okay so far. and they were cheap....R650 for the set

Coming from two 950ís before my 1090 it feels very gutless low dow..
The 1090 feels like a Two stroke at 6500 all hell breaks loose

The bike has had n software update but I am not sure it feels like the throttle doesnít open up all the way down low..

Any one with the sam experience?

I have not ridden the 950 so will not be able to comment. Yes, the bike really goes after 6000rpm. The amount of power available from rideable rpm is deceptive - judging the amount of times the nanny kicks in to bring balance to the force. What the 1090 does do is to be unrideable under 3000 rpm. BoosterPlug made a huge difference on my 1090 Adv R. It has transformed it from a temperamental teen to an agreeable young man. Throttle is smooth, I don't have to check the rev counter for when it falls under 3000 rpm, I can ride it in 5th at 60kmh and 6th at 80kmh and it is smooth. It has taken away most of the chain snap at low rpm. Can ride from 2000rpm till 4th. Can stay in sport mode all the time, even off road. Software update after a recent service made it even better, but the huge change was after installing the BoosterPlug which adds 6% fuel in open loop - whenever there is a change in RPM or TPS.
BoosterPlug, LED Spots, Tool Tubes, RustStop, Kappa Screens, Top boxes, Tank Bags, ATG Gear - whatever works for me.

Have you ridden it with TC switched off? TC cuts the power a lot to keep the front wheel on the ground and the rear from spinning out. It might create the impression that he throttle doesn't open up completely.
On gravel with TC off I had a complaint from a rider behind me that the bike kicked up dust and rocks for half a minute until I reached cruising speed and eased up on the throttle...

Add 3 teeth to rear sprocket. Cheap and effective.

Technical riding is a lot better, 6th gear isnt useless anymore and the useless high top speed is still useless high with reasonable offroad tyres.
