Over my 40 odd years of riding bikes I have done many 1000 of kilometers , Today I still commute by bike everyday . Now I have at one stage owned a Garage queen , my K6 GSXR1000 parked in the garage for close on 10 years and was seldom used , but in its defense I was still riding a bike , these days its my daily ride and my 1190 is being used for touring and weekend trips .
Why ask this question , often one sees a bike advert ," FOR SALE LOW KILOS ' Why buy a bike and then park it ?
Now I bought my 1190 in December 2017 , was a 2014 model had 12000ks on it with lots of extras , good deal for me , but 12000 ks in 3 years work out to about 350 ks a month ,thats a breakfast run a month maybe .
What is the feeling out their these days with bikes costing close to 300 k  , I fondly remember when the FJ 1100 had a price tag of just over R6500.00 and buyers said these bikes will never sell , paid 8K for my first GSXR 750 , was a lot of money in 87 , bought many more bikes , pity I could not have kept them all . but such is life .
I have a serious itch to add a 1290 Super duke to my stable , just cant justify it , but just maybe Santa is nice and a Super duke can fill a xmas stocking , just maybe .

I have a second bike like that. A Harley Davidson. Its got useless brakes and suspension, but it was cheapish, I don't own anything on it and its an occasion if I do ride it so I am fine with it gathering dust. Do a 1000km a year, mostly taking the children around the block to circulate the oil and then gun it solo where after I park it again, satisfied with a huge grin.

I see the KTM as my primary bike, needs to work most, do most kilometres, get extras and and. Many times people will speak of my bike and refer to my HD, total confusion then as that's not how my mind is setup. The one is to keep clean the other is to work, to earn its keep. (but the HD will also work if dynamics change, someday)

I'm not sentimental. A bike must have a purpose and be used. When I stop using it, I sell it, often at a loss.

I am at this stage thinking about a second bike. Sold the Blackbird with 132000km and the second GS now has 168000. I dont think a newer GS is the way as there is buggerall wrong with the 2012, i just think of something smaller and lighter to take the 7 km a day commute so that the GS can do the long trips.
On the same topic, looked at a 2014 LC GS with 600km on the clock the other day, apparently the owner stays abroad, what a waste!
If i had the funds i would treat my bike like a fishing license, renew yearly! (Or is that a other license??)

I have the XT660X as my daily commuter... the pig (1150GSA) is currently being worked on (slowly) and the CB1000 is my museum piece that I ride every now and then ... but mostly stare at it.

I’ve often thought to sell one ... go down to 2 bikes ... but I cannot bring myself to do it

I have 3 bikes, do about 25000km per year(commuting incl.), rotate them once a month, ok not the air cooled adv, try to save some kilo's on her, as she standing on 75000km. On the other hand my neigbour bought a 1200GS in Sept 2016(only has 1 bike) and wait for it.......bike done 932km upto date as he booked the bike's 3rd anual service last week. Three years and not even the run in service.

I did a complete nut and bolt restoration on a Transalp 700 about 4 years ago.. its in showroom condition now.. I think i've put 1500km on her in the last 2 years, I did 32 000km in the 1st 2 years I had her.. so it all depends..

At the moment i'm enjoying riding the plastics on weekends more than adventure bikes but come the heat of summer and ill probably go back to touring

I do 2k a month every month on my 990 as its by far the fav bike in the garage, use the R50/5 for random events and maybe do 1000km a year if lucky, the XR650 gets forgotten lately as the 990 just piles on the smiles  ;); the BSA might be for sale in a while and the MR50 from schooldays is just a sentimental garage queen pure and simple... :lol8: The Matchless needs help to get her running again and the XS1100 has not run in a decade now while the SR500 needs some meditation to attempt the kick-start procedure... ;D The XT500 needs a carb clean....

But, they all bring me joy garage queens or not  :thumleft:

I've always been happy with one bike. If it goes, it's good. But now with 2 (two!) beautiful. low-mileage Honda 250 Rallys for sale on this forum, I'm beginning to think that a smaller bike would also be sensible idea. Ai tog.

Sitting with the same "problem"

I have a low km 950S, and I have put on less than 1000km in two years. I just dont have time to do trips with having three young boys and being self-employed.

Then I also have the 500 which I ride +- every second Sunday.

I have often thought of selling the 950..... but I LOVE that bike. And I keep telling myself that when a weekend opens up, I have the bike to get on and go blast around the Tankwa or Richtersveld. There are very few unmolested 950's left. And I pride myself on having one.

If I really need to sell one, it will be the 500.

I only have to take my 950 out for a quick spin to know I've got the best bike in the whole world. That quick spin stops me selling it and also stops me buying anything else.

THAT is the true value of this bike. I've spent good money on it but it has saved me a small fortune.

Still think I need that third bike again, though ............................
Don't let fear hold you back ..... take it with you!

After buying, restoring and taking the KLX450 out for its first thrashing yesterday it just made me realize that you don't need to spend 100K plus on a bike to have fun on it. A 20K bike will give you just as big a thrill and leave a smile on your dial the rest of the day :thumleft: #itsinyourblood
