What a good jol on older bikes
« on: February 06, 2020, 09:00:23 am »
If you have some time watch these programs. We have seen these challenges before but think us WD's will relate to this one. Take old bikes (many from our youth)and go tackle one of the most difficult trails in the US

Little by little, one travels far

Great series, thanks for the share. The little TTR proved once again just how versatile an underpowered donkey can be in technical terrain  :thumleft:

I have a 1976 DT175C, and took it to Nietvoorbij once, and I think it surprised a lot of people with where they can go.

Low-down torque is the key.

The guy on the YZ125 must be a very good rider because those old 2T MX'rs had zero torque down low, this whole trail was 1st and 2nd gear riding ! I just loved how 30 year old bikes with a bit of TLC can still do that type of terrain.

Watched all 6 videos, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

When it comes to this type of terrain, modern bikes are not tat much at an advantage over the good bikes of the 70's. Different story over high speed terrain, and on power delivery though.

Braking department I would not even mention. :eek7:  I have done a lot of very technical riding in the late 70's on a twinshock DT400, that bike was very capable.

I had a twin shock DT175, ported stupid, RD350 reeds and carb, lots of power top end lost most of the torque, needed rings after every one day enduro.  :o

Except that they are big fun, it's value climbs, instead of drops.
