Did a few rides into the mountains during lockdown, but kept them short and fairly close to home. Will probably go camp on Mariepskop or visit Tonteldoos as soon as we reach appropriate lockdown level.

I have seriously been considering just klapping it to Tonteldoos irrespective of lockdown level early on a Saturday morning and then back the same way early Sunday.
I doubt accommodation would be an issue (actually I know it wouldn't) and I only have to run the Kempton/Bapsfontein gauntlet (and I've got an essential services cert for that) and then I'm on dirt pretty much all the way there.

Tonteldoos is an awesome spot, with some spectacular riding in the area and only about 170km of dirt from my house

I think if exercise restrictions are lifted substantially, the motorcycle bodies in SA should be petitioning the government to allow leisure rides. I mean it is surely the only exercise most of us actually like.

If I am correct, a similar thing happened in the UK where motorcycle riding was included under exercise.

But when we can ride properly and stay out overnight, I plan to support as many of my favorite campsites as possible, especially those that are just campsites and have no farming activity. I keep in touch with a few, some are barely hanging in there and some have unfortunately thrown in the towel.

I like the idea of the campsites, or farmers that can give us a place to stay. That's what makes the trip worthwhile.

Indeed - and I just dig camping!

@Gee S  - do you perhaps have a route in mind? I wouldn't mind inviting myself along perhaps?
You are welcome to come along. The plan is to slab it from Roodepoort to just past Koster then turn left on the Rosmincol road (dirt) and follow that all the way to Miga. this road passes close to Zeerust to find fuel if needed. From Miga follow a two spoor track along the Botswana border until untill I think Makgori where there is a filling station but the last time I went past there it was closed. If there is no fuel there is a slight detour can be taken to Tosca where the Co Op have fuel.and then on to Bray where there is camping or rooms at the Tapama Lodge which is the place to be on a Friday or Saturday night.
The last time I was on my way to Namibia so I mainly stuck to the main dirt road from Bray to Van Zylsrus. The return route will be the same.

Some years back we were on our way to Namibia via the Swartberg Pass. Passed a dude on a BM S1000RR ...  he was only doing about 8kph down the North side but he was out on his bike. Anywhere, on anything would be great!
1978. It's 6am, mid winter...two up on a XL 185S ... off to my first casino ever with all of R40 and we've got a full tank of fuel, so enough to get there we reckon.... that's determination...
