Riding with plugs

So I discovered not one, but two nails in my back tyre..

It is coming to the end of it's life, but can probably go another few hundred km's - is it safe to ride with plugs or should I rather take the hit and replace the whole thing?

Plugs have worked and lasted well for me over the years. Never replaced or repaired a plugged tyre.

I'm currently riding with a plug. For me, if it's the tread blocks or meaty part of the tyre, not a sidewall or shoulder, good vulcanizing glue used (the blue stuff usually) I reckon it's okay to continue riding with it.

I have travelled a bit with plugs, but i use snotstokkies as a emergency and have balloon plugs fitted at a tyre shop as soon as i can.

I am looking at replacing mine; no plugs yet, but peace of mind makes the rules. Done 6000km on these Capra X, generally discussed as the bottom end of distance they achieve.

They look as if there is still a degree of life in them, but once you start questioning their condition you will always have doubts.

When that gut starts tingling....listen to it.

They look as if there is still a degree of life in them, but once you start questioning their condition you will always have doubts.

These tyres are barely used, the chicken strips still attached.
Why renew them - to have chicken strips in the middle?

Looking like that there is another 4-5000 kms left on that back tyre for sure!!

Then others who say "I must get the last scrap of value from every cent I spend, risk or not, because I can't afford otherwise."

do what you want , and what makes you feel safe

i used to only ride with a plug only if it was an interanl "mushroom type" plug ( and that was only once) ........... but i have ridden on "snot plugs " until the tyre was worn and then replaced

You forgot the third group that own KLR's... we do not give a fuck, we just ride till the canvass shows...

The canvass is only the first wear indicator, when the tyre make sparks at night, you're on the carcass......
