Photography bike trip?
« on: February 05, 2009, 02:41:21 pm »
I am keen to do a trip into swaziland on my GS, to enjoy the ride and see the place etc, but mostly to take photo's of interesting things along the way. The guys I normally ride with are not really into photography, soooo the stop and taking time to get some photo's does not really appeal to them, any photographers here, that would be keen on doing a trip like this?

Realy wish I could say: "Count me in", but I'm out of the country.  :BangHead: I also enjoy stopping and taking pictures. Nice to look at afterwards........... good luck, I hope you find someone to join you.

Yup that's me.

Was thinking end march, start april around there. Route, not sure yet will have to research that, never been to swaziland.
Perhaps someone that's been can shed some light on a good route?

I would love to do a no-rush photography orientated trip but with a possible Freestate bash trip end March and Greytown (MMC09) end April I will not be able to fit in another trip during the times you mentioned.

Enjoy, I'm looking forward to the pics.

From the N4 turn off at Belfast towards Carolina. Take the R38 to Badplaas and enter Swaziland at Josefsdal border.  About 30kms out of Badplaas the sand road (good surface) begins, and winds through awesome mountain passes all the way to the border post which totally hassle free.  Once through the border you get to the little town of Bulembu.  Perfect for stay over.  From Bulembu there is a sand road through the forests to Piggs Peak.

Ok here's three possible routes. I have never been to Swaziland so does this look viable?
Also how is safety in Swaziland?

I would do:  Red route up to Manzini. Travel east to meet up with the blue route.  Follow blue route to exit Swazi in the south.

Violent crime (hijackings/muggings/assault) is very low there.
It's a predominantly rural country so take the normal precautionary measures as would apply to travelling rural areas in SA.
Medivac - not to sure.

Hi daemon

I'd very much like to tag-along, i really like the occasional 'slow' photographic trip.

I'm quite close to swazi & ride there quite a bit so have some good routes and rustic spots for a bite/drink.

Drop me a message closer to the time when you have a firm date fixed.

Cheers
Mark
