Well done Chris to get back on your bike to do what you like best   :ricky:
How can you remember the things like it was yesterday?
I can't remember in detail what I have done 20 or 30 years ago.
It wasn't biking anyway  :mwink:

You remind me of an old army buddy from 61, Hasie Strydom.  Wonder where he finds himself these days.  They are not building them like that anymore - and I'm not talking about the bikes!

May of 2004 I ask Amanda if she have seen Augrabies waterfalls and if not we could go and maybe see
Luderitz aswell!! :mwink:
I wanted to take the Dakar on a longish trip. Amanda had a few days off in June and I took her bike
through to CT the week before. Nearly fell off the trailer on the way there!!! :eek7:

We pulled away on a Saturdaymorning and at Piekenierskloof she complaned about how cold it was.
She added some more clothing and it got better. We turned off the N7 at Clanwilliam and rode over
Botterkloofpass to Calvinia and then 32kilos direction Middelpos to my friend Piet. Had a great day on his
farm.

Amanda on a horse for the first time.

I did lots of horserideing when I was younger but it was quickly clear my back wanted nothing of it.

Friend Piet on the other hand does longdistance rideing for a sport. A pratice run for him and the horse after
work on the farm in the evinings is a mere 30 kilos!!!! I would be dead!!

I really like these "koppies" in the area around Piet's farm. I would like to go and camp on one of them
one day.

We pulled away on a very cold Mondaymorning to Augrabies. Amanda was really battleing with frozen hands.
We kept on tar to Kenhardt and turned on dirt to Kakamas. Late afternoon we got to Augrabies.
Very nice and big campsite.

We had enough time to walk to the falls. Water was low as it was winter.

And the Dassies did what they do best..................soaking up the sun.

I had to be a gentleman to lift this treestump to let the lady through!! :mwink:

It was cold when we left Augrabies the next day again and we crossed into Namibia early at Onseepkans.
On the Namibian side they do not ask for a roadtax payment.
Odd I thought and I ask why do we not pay?
No says the customs guy they have no roadtax papers and everyone knows this and if we get stopped
we should just show them our passports that we crossed at Onseepkans!!!
Karasburg was our next stop and then Ais-Ais.

Some of the guests at Ais-Ais :mwink:

The next day I woke up with a back that was killing me. We decided to stay for the day and see what happend with it.
If it is the same the following day we turn for home and if better we keep on.

We nearly had the place to ourselves. :thumleft:

She's feeding the birds again!!!!

For a big part of that day I stayed in the hot water in the indoor pool. It did me very good. :deal:

Whoever decided to build Ais-Ais was a smart man. Just too bad the management does not look after the place as they should.

The restday was good and I was looking forward to get to Luderitz.
I have taken a few pics in the same spot and will again. Just love this view and road to Hobas.

At the Fishriverbridge near Seeheim............................................toe het ek nognie n pens gehad nie!!

The last bit into Luderitz the wind was blowing as usual.

Nothing as far as the eye can see...............................................stunning!! :thumleft:

Will continue...

Is ek reg, Chris?

The following morning we slept late, had breakfast and headed out to Kolmanskuppe. An interesting tour it was.

Game anyone?!! :mwink:

The water and dry ice train that delivered once a week at each household.

All this tourist walking makes me tired.

These houses must have been very smart when they were new. Diamondmoney!!

To build something like this today would cost a pretty penny!! :deal:

We were blessed with the most beautiful weather in Luderitz and camping on Shark Island was great
except we could  not go out at night though. The night before some guys from the Freestate went
to the restuarant with one 4x4 and left the other there locked with all their belongings. When they came
back at 1 am everything was stolen from the car (passports and celphones and camera's) and their
tents were emptied. No matrasses or sleepingbags. The guard just shrugged his shoulders and said
he cannot cover the whole campsite at once!!!!
The thieves row over the bay from the other side. We ordered our food from a restuarant and
ate at our tent!! :thumleft:

This is what Namibia is famous for!! :thumleft:

The town accross the bay.

They are resting a bit. :thumleft:

We left Luderitz early as the plan was to ride to Vioolsdrift. It was a Saturday. Aus and then Rosh Pinah.
Then along the Orange river.
As can be seen by the bodylanguage of some people I was in trouble!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My mistake? I did not stop at the very FIRST place that had a toilet in Rosh Pinah.................but at the second!!!! :eek7:
Luckily I was forgiven before nightfall :thumleft:

For those that have not done this road. Put it on your list. :deal:

The big grape farms at Aussenkehr. Amazing what they have built here out of nothing. They have the two main
ingredients here though. Lots of sun and water. :thumleft:

Late afternoon we stopped at Fiddlers Creek. Sunday we just relaxed and did the washing (ok Amanda did)!! :mwink:
Went rowing on the river and we soon found out Amanda will not be in the SA Olympic rowing team very soon!!!!!! :imaposer:
Sunday evening at 11 we were lying in the tent waiting to fall asleep and we heard rain!!! Cannot be I said, it
never rains in Vioolsdrift!!! :deal:

It rained the whole night and we only left at 11 the next morning(in the rain) and it was a muddy snotty 12 kms back to the
tarroad.
We kept on the N7 to Lutzville and stayed the last night with friend Michael.
This is a gemsquash (skorsie) that grew a bit to good in his field!!!!!!

The last day was a slow ride from one coffeeshop to the next back to CT.

Will continue..............................................................die einde is in sig!! :thumleft:

Weereens uitstekend, Chris.

As ek reg kan onthou, daai toergids by Kolmanskuppe is 'n duitser by die naam van Ziggie Mans.

Die beste jaar in my lewe.
