    Looking for Yamaha XT660Z indicators

Hi all. I've been riding my old Tenere for nearly 15 years now and the indicators have inevidably got worn now and need replacement. Does anyone know of a local (South African) retailer where I can get replacement indicators, besides Yamaha? Yamaha will be able to get it for me, but I suspect I...

Has anyone done the trail OVER the Rooiberge?

We are busy planning a trip and I saw an intriguing road that goes over the full length of the Rooiberge (see route marked in red on the attached). This road eventually meets up with the Rooiberg Pass on the eastern side of the mountain. Has anyone done this road yet? I was wondering if (a) it...

    Gifberg roads (gates open?)

Hi everyone. We are planning a trip around the Gifberge near Vanrhynsdorp and I saw nice looking roads on my Slingsby map. I however notice there are a number of gates shown on the map. Does anyone know if these gates are locked and if the roads are open? Particularly the gates shown on the...

Auxiliary lights - Spot and flood light combination

Hi I am planning to install 2 auxiliary lights on my Tenere. I found a 3600 lumen LED which I think will work perfectly. These lights are however apparently comparable to a car's brights, which are too bright at night for oncoming traffic. So I want to install a smaller light, say 1000 lumen...

    Auxiliary lights

Thinking about it now, would it be worth it installing one spot and one flood light? Then you could dim when a car approaches at night, without totally switching off the auxiliary lighting (i.e. flood stays on, spot switches off). And I would prefer to have a separate switch(es) to these...

    Auxiliary lights

Hi everyone I have finally decided that I am literally risking my life everytime I ride my bike at night. I have an orange light cover, which is great for cars to recognise my approaching bike. But this cover doesn't allow safe riding at night. So, now I'm researching auxiliary lighting. I...

    Richtersveld National Park

Nope seems there're still closed. Got this email from the park manager: "Firstly, you will be allowed to travel as far as Pootjiepram which is 10km from the main reception. Thereafter you will not be allowed or permitted to go into the rest of the park. Also see this link...

    Richtersveld National Park

Does anybody know if the Richtersveld NP is still closed to bikes? I know it definitely was a few years ago. I got there with my bike on the back of my bakkie, ready for some fun. Just to have it parked at the gate. Bummer. Expensive lesson I have however heard rumors that it is now open for...

    Petrol availability southern Namibia

Hi everyone My brother and I are planning a little trip in southern Namibia for a couple of days end of December 2010. I would just like to check if there is anybody that knows the petrol setup in that part of the world. We are planning to fuel up at Rosh Pinah and Ai-Ais (we're doing a...

What is the verdict between New Tenere or 800GS

Have a look at what Chris Scott had to say about the Tene. He took the bike for a proper test run in Morocco: www.adventure-motorcycling.com/xtz/index.htm In my opinion you will get used to and get to enjoy ANY bike you buy. I enjoy my Tene to bits, handles like a dream off-road. And I'm sure...

    Camo Tenere?

Yeah I saw a blue Tene on the N1 today. Not too many of them around, so it could have been me you spotted this morning. And no, I did not spray the bike. It was born that way  :mwink:

Hand signals while riding in a group

Does anyone use hand signals while riding in a group? Someone told me the other day that Harley bikers have a whole collection of signals. Sounds like a good idea. :bueller: I'm thinking in the line of 'watch out pothole left', 'low on fuel', 'everyone single file', etc.
