Boyhood dream bikes: Dream vs reality

Since I was a little boy, the only thing I ever wanted was a XT 500 with a camel tank. Come first paycheck and I bought one.  (exact same model year as my birth date, late 70's) Then reality kicked in: kickstart, drum brakes, aircooling and an unsteady weave at 110km/h are overrated. Similar...

    KLR Exhaust manifold

Thanks for all the replies.  Sounds like getting a stainless one made is going to be way cheaper than buying one. Not to mention it will be stainless, so should last forever. I'll phone around and see what I can come up with.

    KLR Exhaust manifold

hehe,  Lack of garage.  I tried a cover, but it acts like a sail, and the wind blew over my bike twice, so now it just stands in the open.  Not looking too bad for a bike that spent it's live outside, no real fading from the sun and the only rust is the exhaust and the footrests.

    KLR Exhaust manifold

I need some advise please. After 5 years of standing outside, my KLR's exhaust rusted through in the front near the manifold (Do you even call it a manifold on a single cylinder?)  The noise it makes now is unbelievable. Is this the type of thing I can buy an aftermarket replacement for, or...

Thanks, I've mailed them. Will see what they come back with, but from what I can gather from their website they only do 4 wheels.

K53 License training. Garden Route area

After doing my 5th learners, (with many months of illegal riding in between) I decided it's now or never to get my license. I've googled and searched but can't find anything. Does anyone know of K53 license training in the southern Cape area. George,Knysna,Plettenberg Bay.  The close the Plett...

    Commuting: Learning from other's mistakes

In 5 years of commuting on my bike I’ve seen other riders doing some pretty stupid things. I've also done my fair share of stupid things. Let’s try and learn from each other's mistakes. A lesson learned from someone else is a lot cheaper and less painfull than learning from your own mistake...

Cars running red robots. What to do?

I've seen a similar thing happen in front of my eyes at Century city. I was on my KLR, the crashing dude was on a R6.  The moment the robot turned green he shot of (straight ahead). A car coming from the other side turning right decided to take the last 'orange/light red' gap. Of course they...

    Garden Route toy run

Hey, I was there. My helmet is the one in the bottom left corner of the helmet pic. Departing from Plett in the morning for buffels went something like this. Wife: Babe, should we take our rain gear? Me: No, don't be silly it's barely even drizzling and it will blow over, then we are stuck...

    Cheap alternative to Anakees

hmm. Serious?  I don't mind the 80/20 bit. I'm mostly on tar anyway.  I can buy 3 K761 tires for the price of 1 anakee, so if it is semi decent that might just be the answer.

    Cheap alternative to Anakees

Thanks for all the replies. I googled some of the suggestions, but since I have a maxis dealer just down the road I might try the Maxis Preza.  Also stumpled upon a Kenda K761 in my search, but a quick search on the forum scratched that one.  Pity, they are nice and cheap.

    Cheap alternative to Anakees

Hi All (Long time lurker. small time poster) I've been using Michelin Anakee tires over the last few years on my KLR. And they’ve been great. Mostly used for commuting, with some weekend dirt road action. I've been silly and just bought property, so now my biking budget is way smaller.  Any...
