A bit of a detour on the way home from work today...    Linton, near Grassington, in the Yorkshire Dales.

    Bike holidays in the UK?

His scheme should will work out half or even one quarter of that. A classic like the R65, a KLR650 or a CB500 may be about GBP20-25 (R250 and up) per day. He's looking for 500cc bikes for people on a budget, and newish adventure bikes for those with a bit of cash. Riders don't put many miles on...

    Bike holidays in the UK?

The weather can be a lottery, and July to September are probably the best times. It can be fun if you want to try winter riding, assuming the main roads are salted. Just have warm waterproofs and a fire and warm tea on the other end. When it gets really cold the skies clear up and this makes...

    Bike holidays in the UK?

Is anyone interested in touring the UK by bike? My university professor is retiring, and he is thinking of starting a bike tour business. I am testing the market for him as a favour - it won't be my business. The idea is that the customer would fly out from SA with just tshirts, undies and...

How to fight rust on a bike ?

ACF50 keeps the road salt off here. It's very expensive, but you don't need much and it lasts. Spray once at the beginning of winter, wash off with SDoc100 at the end of winter. It's the best long lasting solution to rotting BMWs. https://www.acf-50.co.uk/

Pics of your LOADED bike for the long trip.

Clarens, and 800kms in 6 hours with photo stops everywhere. Don't laugh  :) Apart from looking the business and eating up the flats and twisties very quickly (and picking up girls), it's a useless long distance missile. That pillion seat was made for size 0 girls going to the cafe, not Oxford...

Show us pics of your part of the woods...

In this place called Yorkshire... Rugby pitch behind the house - not quite a dry dusty Highveld field in winter... House is a bit more colourful in summer though...

    Riding in snow

Tourance is ook kak in die sneeu! I ride the bike to work in this mess because otherwise it is an hour on the bus with coughing and sneezing people.  >:( Going to work in winter will start like this (from last year, this year is worse)... A quick look up the street... And then it's off to...

    Commuting: Learning from other's mistakes

Throttle stuck open at 110kph in morning traffic on the N1 at Fourways, car in front getting very big very fast, hit the front brake instead of the clutch and kill switch. That little instinctive reaction cost me a fat tank slap and a visit to Olivedale Clinic with a broken wrist and arm...

    Riding in snow

I'd like to share some general tips for riding in the snow on a GS. This is experience from four years in the UK, with two winters of quite deep and enduring snow, riding to work and back and doing the odd tour. Clothing Keep warm (duh) Seriously, mistakes happen when you're cold and on this...

    A winter ride through Yorkshire

I'm in Leeds, Yorkshire, and let's say it's a little different to Joeys. On Monday it was time to fire up the GS and go and play in the snow. The sun was out. The weather report said -18C just down the road from me. All the Brit drivers were sitting at home whining about when the council were...

New member from up north, far far north

Howzit Been studying in the north of the UK for the past few years as part of an early mid life crisis. Now that that's finished (studying, not midlife crisis) I'm contemplating whether to reopen my IT biz in SA or stick around and open one here. The GS seemed a better option than a car after...
