Is the KLR650 the bike for me?

I was definitely like you a week or two back - even went as far as placing a very honest add up on GT. Last week a bought some tools I needed and took off the fairings and mucked about with the KLR's famous safety cut outs. Now the bike is 100%, I cannot believe that the foot stand safety could...

Got the bike..now for the rest

Hi kelly - well, I work for myself in retail, and at this time of year my big goal is just trying to break even - not a bun in sight! But yeah, the clymer manual is topping the list of what I need to get, for obvious reasons! Unfortunately I am a big guy at around 110kg - chuck on the wife at...

Got the bike..now for the rest

Eish , I woke up in a bad,bad mood this morning. My jaw started itching from the sting sometime in the night, but I knew i would not be able to find an anti-histamine cream that i had bought because my wife likes to keep first aid stuff in at least 5 places round the house - really pisses me...

Got the bike..now for the rest

on my way to work managed to get stung by a bee/wasp - not sure what but it had a good 3 - 4mm stinger - on my jaw. Anyway, in slight discomfort pulled the bike to the side of the freeway and stopped in gear. but when trying to start, it just made a "tick" noise in the front some where - then...

Got the bike..now for the rest

I will keep tabs on the oil issue - looks like in jan 2011 it did get a new std piston and rings - pity it was the std piston. And yes Le Cap, will be bringing it to you for the suspension upgrades in a few months...

    Spirit motorcycles

Popped in the other day looking for a helmet for the wife, actually ended up buying one of yours down the road....and they do give a discount for cash.  ;) But it was nice to compare some of the other brands, and yes, at that price point you seem to have the better product. When will you be...

    Re-waterproofing my jacket.

Nikwax is the bomb - you can actually waterproof a fleece with some of their products. Would get the one that you wash in rather than the spray on.

Got the bike..now for the rest

Cheers guys.  I've got full leather serious hiking boots. Surely they will be ok to start with? But yeah, maybe bump the jacket up a couple of notches. I visited spirit the other day and they have a really nice jkt for R1000 but only goes up to XXL and they will only have XXXL in a few months -...

Got the bike..now for the rest

Bought a '08 klr a couple of weeks back and am really enjoying being back on a bike after a 10 year break. Really happy with my choice - plenty power and speed for me and the noise it makes makes frightens the hell out of everyone - another plus i my book  >:D Bike has got braided hoses and...

    Aluminium tent poles - Where?

Sorry, I see what you mean. Some poles in a pole set could be straight, but to get the curve poles nearer the apex will be pre-bent. So yes, some pole sections could be straight. I have a single pole tent that can sleep 3 and weighs around 1.8 kg (useless in wind though) that has a huge arch...

    Aluminium tent poles - Where?

I have never seen them not bent before. You must remember aluminium doesn't bend nearly as well as fiberglass. Although i am sure frame tents will have straight poles though.

how to wash a sleeping bag?

If you HAVE to wash it you must use detergent for down sleeping bags as said before. Most manufacturers recommend gentle hand washing in a bath. You have to be careful of the internal baffles in the bag which are not as strong as the external shell fabric. So be careful when lifting when wet as...
