Gear hacks - Tips for you trips.

I have a few tricks that I do regularly, I was wondering if anybody else has any little McGuyverisms to share? 1) Camelbak cleaning kits are really expensive. Effervescent denture tables (the ones you drop into the glass with your false teeth oupa) are far cheaper than do a great job of getting...

    Bad accident near Katbakkies Pass

I was chatting to a friend about this last night and the quote was: "If the people involved were on Harleys there'd be lawsuits flying. If they were on sports bikes it would be fists" ADV riders are a bit of a different breed.

    Sandcamp - Tableview

At 51 you'd not be the oldest person riding bikes out there. I won't name names though ;) Fitness is important, but riding sand is a pretty good way to stay in shape. It's crazy cardio and way more fun than a gym.

Less than sterling review on letsride, although that was a few years back - maybe it's changed. https://www.letsride.co.za/Places-2-Ride-Post.aspx?ID=201 "Well I went there yesterday and boy was I disappointed! Paid R70 for a "track" that is can hardly be called a place to ride! It's very...

    Sandcamp - Tableview

Before spending money, I'd really urge you to get out for a Sunday either with the Quarry Crew (Smaller bikes, a bit faster) or the Sandcamp crowed (Bigger bikes, slower). We both ride in the bush area near Parklands/Sunningdale - It's completely free and there is something to suit just about...

    Sandcamp - Tableview

We are extremely newbie-friendly at Sandcamp and are more than happy to spend time in the less technical areas and help out with technique, advice and the picking up of bikes :) None of us ride exclusively off-road bikes, we're all "dual sports" above 650cc. Devan

    Riding on deep sand roads

I find heavy bikes squirrely at low speed but actually more planted moving quickly. Once you're up to speed on a big bike you have a lot of inertia, and this translates directly to powering through soft ruts as opposed to having negotiate them. As the Afrikaans put it... "Domkrag" :)

    Do you enjoy organized outrides?

Three cheers for Andy660 :). I enjoy the organised outrides for different reasons to my solo / small group excursions. For me outrides are about learning new routes and meeting other dogs. I'm not too worried if things move a bit slowly because I'm not really in any sort of hurry. I see it...

    Riding on deep sand roads

If you're in or around Cape Town, there's a group of us that rides sand (on purpose) weekly. For all the theory, the only anybody gets comfortable on sand is through practice. The more you do it, the better you get. The better you get the more enjoyable it is. As Leigh said, it gets addictive...
