    GS1200 ignition problem

I am told that it is just the antenna pick-up.  It is the ring around the ignition switch. If you have a mate with the same type of bike, you can borrow his one to try. Alternatively, if you have someone with a GS911 and you access the system, it will give you an error of antenna.  I have a...

3 SOUTIES SUKKEL WITH 1 BOER IN BAVIAANS & DIE HEL

Nice ride report, sitting here in Malawi for the next 9 months, I think of the roads and the area and when I see the photos I think of the times I have ridden there. Thanks for sharing. With regards the water crossings, it is the same story with a car, bakkie. Don't enter too fast, don't ride...

    Stolen GPS

If you have the machine number, serial number, you can notify Garmap in SA that the machine was stolen. In order for someone to upgrade the software, they have to supply the serial number to GARMAP, plus customer details, pay online so there could be a paper trail. Hope this helps.

A Bang & a Blow..... any advice on getting BMW to fix?

Goose, I agree that the BMW EU setting is not applicable to the SA market. They have the bikes set for Euro4 and 5 emmission standards. My 2006 GSA does exactly that, so I learnt to ride the bike below 5k or above 6k. If I wanted to overtake a bike and I was at 5k, I just geared bown 1 gear and...

Kaoko - A journey, not destination!

QuicksilverE, having just last week relooked at some of the maps we used to plan this trip, looking at all the photos we took, Zonkelnut, Hydr8 and my own, I tend to see other places on the trip which we did not stop and take photos of. I am off to Malawi end of the month to live there for 3...

Giraffe Rally Zimbabwe - Border crossing Info needed

Hi All, I was wondering if someone has been to Zimbabwe lately by bike? I was wondering if they have the following up to date figures /prices: Carbon tax in Zimbabwe? Beight brodge toll fees? Insurance fees? What other fees are required? I do know that Mugabe needs funds but I need to know how...

    1200GS ABS - Concerned scared

Check the basic's first. First the front brake lever. Sometimes people bump them down a little and this causes the ball on the brake lever to rest on the brake lever and the brake light stays on. While you ride, the brake / ABS thinks it mus be activatedto supply pressure (model fitted with...

So you think you know something about auto electrics?

Sorry for the late reply, been busy and not much time to surf WD's. Please explain what bike it is first, this way, I can get a picture in my mind of what system it is. Like Rufus115 said, depending on bike and system, this could have in influence.

Gear selector switch - BMW GSA - no neutral light. Maybe sorted!?!?

If it messes around when you turn the handelbar, that would indicate to me that there is a loose connection on one of handel bar switches. I don't think the Instrument cluster as that stays still when you move the bars. I would check the switches and their harnesses for a break in the wire...

GS1200 not the bike( shocks) for africa.

If I was stuck in some African country I too would be pissed!!!!!! But that is life these days. Walk into most shops and expect service, spend an hour there and nobody come to help you. Same with bike shops and spares counters. You would think that because the World is in an economic flatty...

GS1200 not the bike( shocks) for africa.

I do know from previous manufacturer dealings, that shocks have a shelf life. They also need to be stored correctly and to minimise costs, failure due to incorrect storeage, most manufacturers keep minimum stock in their warehouse. Another thing is that the stocking system should have a setting...

    Crazy fuel guage

Suspect the fuel to be the cause. Too many bikes and cars with the same probelm. This happened a few years back, cars, bikes and the whole bang shoot. It seems to happen when the fuel suppliers bring in processed fuel from outside SA. I do know that BP are having supply issues and are bringing...

    Crazy fuel guage

I have seen on other bike, if the battery has leaked acid on the harness, you get dry joints or corroded solder connections. On Honda, the earth wire are normally green or brown, some black. Look for signs of chaffing, acid damge or maybe even an eart wire which may have come loose (fallen away...

    Crazy fuel guage

Sounds like a dry joint some where in the harness. I would remove the harness as best as possible, remove the tape and look for a connection which is corroded or slightly melted. When you find it, repair by cutting off and resolder. Your misfire has got to do with it. What is happening is that...
