Bivvy Bag/Sack - which and where

Also do a google search for ultralight hiking / backpacking. Those guys take it to a whole new level but have some good ideas for light weight and compact shelters.

Bivvy Bag/Sack - which and where

Expat.... Been using bivvy bags for years. not so much for bike trips but for "fast and light"alpine style berg trips both summer and winter, rain and snow. So some points to consider: Bivvy bags are an acquired taste. Many people find them to claustrophobic and prefer tents for that reason...

@ 2SD... The man to speak to regarding Beta trials bike stuff in SA would be Graham Harris 084 528 0843. https://www.trials.co.za/ Cheers W

I have this crazy idea, might need some training.

Gas Gas has a new owner and they are producing again but look like they are still busy with a global restructure. Not sure If there is a local agent any more. Rock garden ( https://www.rockgarden.co.za/gasgas.htm) used to be the agent. If you are up in Gauteng I would go with a Beta. Graham...

I have this crazy idea, might need some training.

Give it a go.... you won't be sorry  :thumleft: ADA don't do a trials training but as mentioned above speak to the Leriche brothers. Or have a look  at getting a copy of Ryan Young's  trials technique DVD. Not sure if it is still available though. One piece of advice if you do go and give it a...

Husky 701, the Good, the Bad & the Ugly...

Not quite as strange as it might seem..... Rally raid UK developed a kit aimed at the malle moto guys that would use a 690 motor with a different Piston - crank combination  making it a 450cc but with the longevity of a 690 motor. This was approved by FIM Not sure if they have updated it to work...

    KLR600 - advice needed

Removal of the decomp is not as common (know of 4 personally) here in SA but quite a few guys seem to take it out / cut it off in the USA. Their reasoning is that with the loss of the Kick start and e-start only models the decomp was no longer needed. Right or wrong who knows. I have still left...

    KLR600 - advice needed

Personally I would pass on it without the papers. They come in two variants. Kick start only and the later model had Kick and happy button. They should kick fairly easily so this one either has the auto decompression removed from the exhaust cam (common mod on KLR's) or it is stuck. In stock...

Headlight restoration - Polycarbonate (plastic): It works

:thumleft: :thumleft: :thumleft: Actualy out of trial and error. Had a 2000 Kia sportage and the head lights hazed so badly you could not drive at night. Tried Brasso, burnishing compound, T-cut and a few others but could not get the lens clear again. At that time no one local stocked the kits...

Headlight restoration - Polycarbonate (plastic): It works

Used it numerous times.... works well  :thumleft: It is just a mild abrasive and a touch of flouride. The big secret to keeping them clear is a good polish to help control the UV degradation of the plastic. I found the hard car wax polishes to work about the best and would give me about 6-8...

Headlight restoration - Polycarbonate (plastic): It works

Toothpaste does an excellent job to get rid of the haze and then a coat of car polish to help keep the UV damage at bay.
