Sani Pass - Wild coast - Garden route - Baviaanskloof - Cape Point

Hey adventurers Planning a ride starting on about the 17th of December from JHB and ending just in time for a new years bash in Cape Town.  Planning to travel back to Jozies on a train in the new year!! Going to "wing it" a bit so not really keen on too much detail but we have a plan on which...

    GS & KTM Botswana & Zim 2010

Actually Chile has some new F16's, Equador is buying the Cheetahs.  Got to admit that the Gripen is a real performer but there is some strange nostalgic attraction of the good old Cheetah that is gonna make it remain an enigma... The last real delta that required superior flying skills and...

    GS & KTM Botswana & Zim 2010

Thanks, good to know although I did make a number of calls to Gabs and the Honda dealer (I think they're across from the KTM dealer) informed me that they all only had MX tyres.  Worth a try next time.  Always handy to leave some spares along the way - Some helpfull guys working at the lodge...

    GS & KTM Botswana & Zim 2010

We took the road to the left past Chapmans baobab and then North until hitting the dirt road about 1 km West of Gweta.  My GPS stopped charging so there was a fair amount of dead reckoning going on.... Not so much fun when there are beers at stake!! Will update that section of the trip...

    GS & KTM Botswana & Zim 2010

All was going a bit too smoothly until we hit our first section of proper off road riding.  Shelly had really little experience off road at this stage and we had under estimated just how long and thick the sand section was to Kubu Island.  An informant at Kwa Nokeng had told us the previous...

    GS & KTM Botswana & Zim 2010

Some Pilot mates of mine and my wife and I decided to take on Botswana and Zim one day at a time with only a general idea of our route.  It certainly led to a great adventure and afforded us the opportunity to gain intimate knowledge of these two beautiful countries - including the flavor of the...

    New KTM 690 & 990 Adventure

Ok, so its three years down the line and KTM still don't have a bike to fill the gap left by the 640 adventure. I heard that the international market does not suit the smaller capacity bikes so they will not continue the 640/690 adventure line in that format but only produce the 690 enduro. ...

    990 Adventure Handle Bars

Unfortunately I don't have the part number because the previous owner did the mod.  The mirror sits slightly closer in but it doesn't really bother me. Can get hold of him if you want...? Here's a closer pic.

    990 Adventure Handle Bars

Bought myself a second hand 990 a year ago with the same mirror breakage off the master cylinder of the brake reservoir.  The modification is an identical mirror to the left one that simply clamps onto the handle bars and the breakage of the thread on the master cylinder is only noticeable on...

    Which helmet would you choose?

I was informed that the UVEX poly carbon R3300 (The one in the pic on the initial post) is made from the same compounds as the "expensive" helmets such as the Arai Tour X3 and the SHOEI Hornet - so same quality and protection just not paying for the name.  The Carbon Kevlar UVEX which costs...

    Which helmet would you choose?

Got myself the UVEX u have in the photo about a month ago after trying on most of the DS helmets available.  I was origionally looking only at the BMW helmet, the UVEX, SHOEI HORNET and the ARAI Tour x3.  The "Marushun" just looked too weird... The Hornet didn't fit so well - built for someone...

My 800GS and 990 Adv Comparison

Nothing like a bit of BMW vs KTM banter to get the conversation going!!! Somewhat like the Bulls vs the Stormers on Saturday eh..!!  >:D

My 800GS and 990 Adv Comparison

Any news on a 690 Adventure...? According to what i hear on the forum and from the KTM dealer there will not be a 690 Adv. Europe is there biggest market and seems as though they like bigger bikes. Sad indeed but its easy to convert a 690 into an adventure few guys on the forum that have done...

My 800GS and 990 Adv Comparison

Fair, no arguments that the KTM is costly to run with a servicing every 7500km! Mine just had its 15000km service and it set me back a few more bokke than I expected, but I did manage to replace the paper air filter with a cleanable one so it should be cheaper in the future...or so I hope!! Is...

My 800GS and 990 Adv Comparison

Did a lot of research before buying my bike and almost went for the F800GS but got an awesome deal on a 990 and haven't looked back since!!  Thanks for putting my mind at ease (Not that it ever wasn't after my first ride on the 990 reminded me more of my YZ 250 than anything else - as long as...
