Looky what I found!! It's a 1980 Honda XR500.
The previous owner either mistook it for an XL or tried to make it look like one, maybe to get it road legal.
There are a lot of non-original parts on it, so it's going to be an interesting rebuild..
Here are her vital statistics..
Lots of rust to contend with, but still worth the work...
Lots of old paint to be removed, and lots of scary modifications in weird places.. I'm still deciding if I want to do the airbox differently..
BTW the bike runs!! I managed to get her started yesterday by using full choke and no throttle (Typical XL/XR)
It does need a new set of rings, maybe a piston and rebore too, as the breather was blowing big time,,
