Calling 2T KTM owners... bought '07 300 last month; first oil change due yesterday. Downloaded manual just to be sure. Didnt help me much, as the instructions below does not apply to my bike (or worse... I bought an older model believing its an '07 ??).
In the picture below (a page from said manual), there aint no screw #7 on my bike :angryfire: Decided to try to 'sumplike' plug on the left, near the footrest. That worked.
Problem: After I flushed and cleaned everything up nicely (had milky discoloration from a near-drown at De Wildt... diesel + cheap oil x2, drain overnight), the sump plug just kept on turning in, i.e. no wrench applied yet, this is hand-turning it. I thought about how easy it came out first time around, and the metal shavings on the magnet. So clearly its been damaged before.
Does anyone have advice on this. I should probably fit a heli-coil... what do to? I'd rather listen to lessons learned than destroy the casing... which is bound to cost a fortune. Thoughts? Should I visit a threading specialist instead? Contact names, numbers?
I temporarily fitted it with plumbers tape (yes, I did... nice and snug) and secured safety wire (doubt it comes standard with the hole pre-drilled, so its probably been race prep'ed before). Rode around for 30 minutes, no leaks, no sweating...
