I would like to help sell my brother-in-law's bike. He is only selling it, because he already bought a DR650. It's a 2013 BMW 800GS. Gerhard bought the bike from a family friend of his wife Alida when it had 23,000km on. The previous owner never rode it off road (it was clear just by looking at the bike) and took very good care of it.

The price is R83 000. The other details are lower down, but let me tell you the story. Gerhard, ek hoop maar jys okay met jou verhaal op die web.

There was a time when Gerhard had a Triumph 675 street bike (ek dink hy wou iets bewys), a red one nogal, which he would ride around at ridiculous speeds. Dankie tog, he out grew that phase (I think Alida convinced him) and sold the Triumph. A few years went by and when I bought my 650 Dakar and me and our other swaer (Piet on the forum) started riding together a bit, you could see the lights flicker in Gerhard's eyes and the ideas start flowing. He once jumped on my bike when we visited Ouma in Groot-Marico and came back grinning like a skoolseuntjie on a Friday. He then bought the 800GS, which he absolutely loves (Alida also digs it). Lots of power and very comfortable.

Then in September 2017, we (Myself, Gerhard, Pieter and Alexis) went on a bike trip through Mpumalanga up to the Wolkberg using backroads, tweespoor, singletrack and some gnarly paths. We had an incredible time and I will remember that long weekend for the rest of my life. It was a glimpse into what life in our new family can (and hopefully will) be like. I feel the need to post some photos of Gerhard and his 800:

Ballerina toes. Why he bought the DR

Now the Van Graan family isn't blessed with the longest legs on earth (see above photo) and the same blood flows through Gerhard. So before the trip, Gerhard was already a bit apprehensive about taking his horse off the tarmac and this trip was the first time Gerhard took his bike (or any bike for that matter) off the black stuff. Even I didn't think the route I planned would end up being so tough. What followed was that after the trip, he decided that he would have to look for another steed with a lower back. A month or so ago, he bought a beautiful DR 650.

So there is the back story. Here's the nitty gritty stuff about the bike:

The price is R83 000
It is a 2013 BMW 800GS
It has now transported humans 27,250km, of which Gerhard was one of those humans for 4000km.
It has a full service history and was mostly serviced by BMW. Recently serviced (Feb 2018) and not much riding done since then (less than 1000km since service). During this service, he replaced all the brake pads and fitted a new chain. Rear tyre has 50% left, front has 20-30%.
Rear tyre is a Heidenau K60 Scout, but I'm not sure about the front. I will check when I get the bike.
I believe it is the standard seat.

Extras:
Barkbusters
Crashbars
High rise screen
Headlight protector
Belly bash plate
Adventure foot pegs
Top box - lockable (not sure of brand, will check)
Enlarged side stand foot
Spare key
Owner's manual

Honesty section:
The spotlights aren't working at the moment. They were working during the trip. I will have a look at them when I get the bike from Gerhard and report back.
With help from Alida, he recently took off the crashbars, sanded and resprayed them. They had some scratches from slow speed tip overs. (Hehe, see obove photos)

Gerhard asked me to sell the bike for him as I am at home a lot these days. In the next day or two, I will bring the bike to my place in Berario, Jhb where you can come visit.
