OK, its like this: Tenere seat is nice and comfy for most, but I'm of very narrow build = 30" waiste so the seat is wider than I need. I'm planning to do mostly off-road riding so I need narrow, straight seat for better movement. Pillion fascility is not needed at all. The firmness of the OEM is also an issue for me. After a while my arse-bones sink into the soft foam which causes an uncomfortable ball-lift effect so I'm having to constantly adjust my nuts while riding.
With the new firmed up seat me and my nuts sit nicely perched on the seat. Lekker.
Foam is orthopedic stuff, 25mm thick from Sondor Industries. Its closed cell, waterproof but quite pricy as they only sell 2 x 1m sheets.
OEM seat was shaped with hacksaw blade, bread knife (electric one works very well too) and 120-grit sanding disk on small angle grinder. When grinding make sure to use the side handle and sweep from right to left for best control over shaping and removal of material.
The new upholstery was done to match OEM cover. New seat is approx. 25mm higher than stock, but the effective seat height is probably 40mm higher because the new foam compresses much less than the original did.
The bulge between rider and pillion is removed and about 20 - 30mm shaved off pillion height. The new seat height makes for very comfy leg position and easier getting up to standing position. Long distance riding gives option to slide back onto seat to stretch arms and legs.
