hi guys,

quick one. i know that this is a subjective topic( i have done some reading on the web and seems there is so much info to consider on this subject) but i would like your input.

bike is in for some repairs, and i need new chain and sprocket for the 950 while it is at the shop

I dont commute with the bike, or spend huge distances on tar. tour once or twice a year with the lads and the rest is just weekend fun with mates. i really ride DS on weekends mixed riding. true 50/50 type stuff


im not a fast/hooligan rider by any means. so not riding at huge speeds.
above 140km/h does not happen often with me.
on dirt riding i average 80-100km. on tar 120-130ish

i have felt that the current 17/42 combo is a hack for dirt! first gear is very tall for tech stuff. and i always find my self changing gears as the engine does not sound happy below 4000rpm.

i would like to make it more dirt friendly with a good compromise as dont want to be BUZZING while trying to keep up with my mates on the tar.

adv = 17/42 (.4047) seems for road?
SE = 16/45 (.3555) seems very short for 6th gear at 130km/h?
