adjustment of KLR rear shock

Anybody out there no how to change the shock and damper settings on the rear shock of the KLR? Mine is on the softest setting and when I load up lots of luggage and put my girl on the back, the bike sags really low.  It seems pretty simple in the manual, but looks like a lot more work than just taking the seat off. 

Any advice would be great.
