Hi Guys - looking for some advice please.
I'm the proud new owner of a 2008 XT660 R which still has the original Metzelers on it. These tyres are great on tar but I had a short outing on some dirt during the week and felt a little uneasy on them. A couple of times I felt like I didn't have enough grip and at one stage was convinced I was going down after getting onto some loose gravel (felt like I was riding on marbles).
When I eventually replace the tyres what options should I consider - I'm beginning to feel like I'd prefer to have knobblies but I'd hate to start feeling on the tar like I felt on the gravel because the knobblies don't offer enough grip. I've had some suggestions of T63's or 606's. These will no doubt improve my dirt travel but how "safe" are they on tar?
Does reduced tyre pressure really make that much difference - if I drop the pressure in the Metzelers what pressures should I use?
Cheers
