First off, not a great writer. Most probably due to my adult ADHD and lack of structure, but nonetheless I somehow get my point across.
I have mentioned here before, that I will be moving to Hamburg in December/January and have been contemplating on how to ask the audience (seeing as immigration is extremely topical in the community) for some help and advice as I go. But first some background. . . . I was fortunate enough to dip the pen into some company ink, which has made for an interesting corporate experience to say the least. FFW almost 8 years together (married for almost a year) my wife has been given a massive opportunity and we/she could not decline as it will essentially be on of her last tick boxes before SEO of a giant multinational. Complexity of our company means that the one or 2 avenues I had lined up, has been whipped out from under my feet, (restructuring) and as it sits, after 10 years with my current employer I will be unemployed come January. This brings a host of emotions but as all my friends may have it, a great opportunity for more shooting, riding and perhaps even further studies. Employment or the lack thereof will continuously be addressed whilst I anxiously try and prepare for all the next steps in terms of packing up my life and shoving it into a container. Did I mention we are in the final stages of building our house house on the Dolphin Coast?
So after completing the house and securing tenants for Oct/Nov, as we would like to keep our roots here (and not take a hiding on our investment) and hopefully one day get to come and live in our dream place.
1. What do I sell and what do I keep?
2. Based on the above, container or packing cubes?
3. Can I bliksem my KTM 300 in there (yes im allowed to take it)
4. I have shit load of shooting related things, how to figure out what am I not allowed to take?
5. Important accounts and things to close/wrap up not to get nasty surprises if I come back one day?
6. Taxation and pension, how to?
7. Hidden costs or things to consider when sending my shit abroad?
These are just a couple of thoughts that pop into my mind for now.
We are getting a relocation specialist, my wife will have a contract by end of Aug and they will submit all of our documentation in Sept for the blue card, until I have an employment contract I suppose I will be going over as a spouse. We get access to a company apartment for 3 months to give us time to get a place of our own. Luckily we both go to Hamburg often and its not strange or foreign to us, we already know the suburbs that we will be looking in and the agent will also assist with securing a place as it seems to be a nightmare for most.
I also hope to keep this thread alive and update on some adventures just to keep some of SA close to me when the Germans and the weather get super kak for 9 months of the year. We are both open minded and not running away from SA, and even feel the slightest bit of guilt for yet another 2 tax payers leaving you ou's behind. Hopefully I get to come back and enjoy the land of milk and honey in a couple of years once I have a solid plan B.
