This bike was imported into S.A. from the USA in 2007. The bike belonged to Elmer Symons and brought into SA by his brother Phillip after his brother died in the Dakar - reference below.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Elmer Symons (14 February 1977 in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa - 9 January 2007 rural Morocco) was a motorcycle enduro racer.
He began enduro racing in 1996 and moved to the United States in 2003. He had placed well in numerous regional competitions and had participated in the 2005 and 2006 Dakar Rally as a support mechanic. He crashed his privateer KTM and died at the scene at 142 km into the fourth stage in his first attempt to complete the Rally as a rider. The emergency helicopter was with him within 8 minutes of his emergency alert beacon triggering, but was unable to do anything other than record his death. He was in 18th place for motorcycles overall, and leading the Marathon class after the previous stage. Symons is the rally's 49th fatality.[1]

His brother Phillip asked Doug Macintosh (BMW specialist in Pinetown) to sell the bike for him.
It was sold to a chap I bought the bike from.
The bike developed an electrical problem & stood for a few years under an awning in Durban & was somewhat forgotten.
I purchased the bike and have spent a lot of time cleaning it up cosmetically.
Technically/mechanically I only had to repair the didode board & rewind the stator coil.
Fully serviced top to bottom.
New tryres.
Rebuilt Brembo calipers.
New brake hoses.
Overhauled both Bing carbs.
23 800 miles - genuine.
Quietest R100 motor I have ever heard!
Unfortunately I don't have the log book etc. With the import into S.A. & deceased estate these have gone missing along the way.
Happy to tell you all the little things that will need to get done along the way - depending how fussy you are ...

I have had the bike for 2 - 3 years, it goes absolutely beautifully.
Reason for selling - just bought a GSA 1150 which has to get paid for.
Reluctant sale......  :(
