so - after a month or so i figured my new ride has seen enough running in...
time to hit the road
so today i left home in search of some dirt ;D
here i am already and set to go (ja i know the sun is already sitting high!)
i left about 11am the weather was perfect!!!
you dont get better weather than today!!!
here is the route (i think i followed - might have turned on some road somewhere not sure ;D )
so got onto the n1 turned onto the klapmuts road then went to wellington the over the ever popular bainskloof pass
here i am with my baby!!! aint she pretty!!!
then went to ceres and 20km outside of ceres heading towards sutherland i came across the following...
EISH!!! THE BAAS IS NOT GONNA BE HAPPY!!!
and 40km outside of ceres the road sign that all wilddog members love!!!
this takes you to a fork in the road if you take the left you get onto the marvelous dirt road that LS, Kaboef and Butch took to Calvinia (one of these days!!!)
i took the road towards sutherland and then later turned towards matjiesfontein
then came across my first water crossing ;D
with all the rain i came across a lot of water crossings. in bain's pass the water was running out of the mountain everywhere.
that brings me to an important point!
i was coming down the road (very good dirt road) not going to fast probably about 80km/h
anyway - it was not a blind corner i could see the road going into the distance but there were some bushes so as i come around the corner...
you guessed it...
a crap load of water and it has flushed away a part of the road...
so i get onto the anchors only to realise...
o kark!!!!
never switched off the d@mn abs...
the abs was letting go more than it was braking and i luckily dropped the speed enough not to crash but i hit the water with some speed still left
i was soaking wet...
DON'T FORGET THAT DAMN ABS!!!
the road was otherwise stunning!!!
i then came across this sign - dont know how old it is but i figured it must be way way way old...
just to remind you guys how pretty my new ride is...
and then i saw it...
matjiesfontein...
if you have not been to matjiesfontein do yourself a favour and go and stay over for a weekend.
my lovely wife and i got married at matjiesfontein and it will always have a special place in my heart :-*
then i made run for cape town on the n1
all and all 455km and a great ride!!!
i would recommend the route to everyone...
cheers
